Chapter Two: Food Quest

Feeling his hand on the far wall, Austin groped blindly in the dark for a light switch. “Man, I can’t see anything!” he though to himself, Mizuki holding his hand tightly as her tail swished nervously.

“I-It’s so dark.. it’s kind scary in here…” she whispers, looking around her in the near-total darkness.

“Don’t worry, the only thing you need to be afraid of here is that milk that’s two weeks past its expiration date. Now if find that darned light switch…” he said, murmuring that last bit more to himself than Mizuki; why is it that the light switch never seemed to be where you think it should? Shaking his head, Austin continued to brush against the wall.

“Mmmm, milk…” Mizuki mumbled dreamily and, though her face was hidden, was obviously licking her lips. Austin chuckled in spite of himself.

“Well, there should be some good stuff to eat assuming Roger didn’t eat it all alrea- Aha! Here it is!” he exclaimed as his finger finaly made contact with the little switch.

“I hope not!” Cried Mizuki, utterly horrified at the prospect of no food as her empty tummy rumbled and complained about the lack of food it had in it. Then suddenly the lights flicked on, illuminating every corner of the room and nearly causing the two of them to go blind right then and there. After blinking several times, the bright spots that danced in front of their eyes began to fade… revealing a tall, white refrigerator near the far right corner!

“Ah, there’s the fridge, c’mon Mizuki.” Austin called; beginning to head over in the direction of the fridge with Mizuki hot on his heals as they approached the tall white door. Eagerly, Mizuki stood behind Austin as he opened the fridge door… It was a beautiful sight: grapes, oranges, apples, strawberries, puddings, yogurts, 12 different types of meat in including salmon (Mizuki’s favorite besides strawberries), and numerous other tasty morsels that where hidden behind that. Seeing all this food, Mizuki’s mouth dropped open, her empty belly growling even louder now that it knew there was food to be eaten.

“Wow.. that’s a lot more than I was expecting…” gasped Austin, his eyes nearly as wide as Mizuki’s; then his brow creased in a frown. “Wait, if we have this much food, why did Roger leave?” he wondered aloud, recalling once again how long ago Roger had left and that he still hadn’t returned.

“Hmm? Did you say something?” asked Mizuki, shaking her head as she broke out of her trance, having been mesmerized by the sight of so much food. Austin turned to her.

“Me? Ah, nothing, just thinking. Well, there you go Mizuki; just don’t eat too much, we still have food coming remember?” Mizuki nodded, turning back to look at the fridge before her. As she approached, her eyes seemed to sparkle at the sight of so much food. She reached into the fridge and began to bring out some of her favorite foods, setting them on the table where Austin had decided to sit. Walking to and back from the kitchen she brought back some of the grapes, strawberries, chicken pieces, puddings, 3 slices of cake, and, of course, some salmon. The table loaded with the delicious looking food, Mizuki began to reach out, hungrily as her tummy made yet another roar of hunger. She was about to grab some of the strawberries when she suddenly stopped, thinking about what Austin had said about ‘not eating too much.’ Looking very hungry, she gazed over the pile of food over to where Austin sat.

“Um, I know that I’m really hungry, but, um, I’m worried that if I start eating this delicious food, might get carried away.” She said, craning her neck to look back into the other room where the driveway was visible through the window. “And, I think Roger would be mad if I ate ALL the food while he was out getting food for us.” She continues, looking at Austin again, her face now tilted slightly to the side as she gazed at him shyly. “So, ah… um, c-c-could I ask you for a small favor?” She asked timidly.

“Um, sure; what is it?” he asked in return, his gaze peering at her curiously. Now looking very embarrassed, her face going very red, she asked:

“Um, would you… feed me some of the food.. so that I don’t have a chance to go crazy and overdo it?” Austin bilked. Had he heard her correctly? Did she really ask him to feed her? Austin’s face broke into a dreamy smile.

“This is it, I’ve died and gone to heaven!” he thought “The cutest girl I’ve ever seen in my life.. and she wants me to wade on her hand and foot!” Austin stood up from his chair. “Sure!” he cried, walking over to where she sat, bringing out a spare plate and mimed writing with a pen. “Thank-a-you bery much for-a-choosin’ our buffet.” He says, mimicking an accent he heard on one of those nameless soap operas. “Now, what-a-would you want first?” Giggling and still a bit pink in the face, she sat up strait.

“Strawberries!” she said in a loud, childish voice, like a little kid at Christmas opening presents; her face brightening in the happiest smile Austin had ever seen.

“Bery good!” he says, bowing to Mizuki as he picked up a strawberry from the pile in front of her. “Open wide^^!” he called as he began to feed them to her one by one. Accepting the strawberries that he offered to her, she was careful not to bite his fingers. And as each strawberry entered her mouth, she savored the naturally sweet, juicy taste as it went down her throat and into her food deprived tummy. Licking he lips, she opened her mouth for more. “You look so cute!” Austin cooed, smiling over at her. “I’m surprised that you haven’t bitten my fingers what with you being so hungry.” Mizuki returned his smile with her own.

“I would never do anything to hurt you, not even for a second.” She said, looking at Austin with her eyes sparkling. At that moment, her tummy began to grumble again and, Looking a little sheepish, she asked: “Is there more?”

Before Austin could answer, there came a loud creak from the other room that they had come from before. Turning sharply, Austin saw the front door swing open as a tall, lean figure entered the room, carrying a large sack over his shoulder.

“Hey there, sorry I'm late, but you wouldn’t believe the lines they had at the supermarkets. And the traffic! Don’t even get me started on the traffic!” called a familiar voice as Roger came into the light and, catching sight of the two of them, raised an eyebrow. “Oh, are you two in the middle of something?” he asked, looking at the food on the table to Mizuki and Austin.

“Oh uh-uh-uh, w-we were doing nothing, nothing at all!” stammered Austin who practically shot out of his skin when he saw who it was.

“Mmm, I smell food!!” called Mizuki, her nose in the air and diverting Roger’s attention.

“Yep food’s here!” Roger called, bringing forward the large sack that he was carrying and brought it to the table. “Here ya go, help yourself!” he said, opening the bag and revealing the contents it held. “Now I think that I'll need to get more tomorrow, but this should do for now.” Pulling the bag closer, Austin gave Mizuki an affectionate smile.

“Well here’s your food Mizuki! Dig in!” he called as Mizuki, still ravenous despite the strawberries she had just eaten, reached for the first thing she saw (a blueberry muffin) and took a huge comp out of it. As she ravenously began to eat the new supply of food, in the back of her mind, she couldn’t help but be a little disappointed that her time with Austin had been cut short; it was actually a lot of fun when he gave her the strawberries instead of just eating them herself. As if reading her mind, Roger suddenly got up.

“Well I'll leave you two alone.” He says with a wink. “If you need me I’ll be in my lab.” And with that, he walked to the nearest door on the left-hand side that read:
*WARNING! UNSTABLE CHEMICALS! DO NOT ENTER!* as he opened the door and entered the room. A moment later, his head reappeared as the door opened a crack. “On second thought, knock and then wait for a response if you need me.” he says, closing the door once again so that the sign rattled, tilting sideways on the ropes that held it. Turning back to Mizuki, Austin gave her a rye smile.

“Lets sit down shall we.” He says, escorting Mizuki back to her seat. “Now let’s see.. is there any milk in there?” he asks, filtering through the contents of the bag. Mizuki looks as well, but wasn’t able to find any.

“I don’t think so…” she says, beginning to chow down on the bag’s contents. Taking a bite out of one of the fish, she noticed that Austin hadn’t touched anything yet. “Would you like some food?” she asks sweetly between bites of the fish.

“Sure, what’s in there?” he asks, looking back into the bag (this time paying attention to what he was looking at). Inside was a wide variety of different foods, ranging from apricots all the way to zucchinis, he bag filled up to be brim with all the wondrous goodies. “Mmmm, I think I’ll have some fish.” He says, pulling out a salmon on a stick and beginning to munch upon it, eventually leaving nothing but bone. Watching Austin, Mizuki laughs.

“You seem to be as hungry as I am!” she giggled and, picking up another fish, quickly licks every tenant of meat from the fish, leaving nothing but bone as well (and in record time too!). Having finished the fish, she procreated to start on a nearby Hershey Bar that just seemed to be calling her name.

“Well, I don’t eat as regularly as I should; I usually have about two meals at a day, three if I’m really hungry.” He says as his own stomach began to ruble. “And I haven’t eaten yet.” He says, reaching for another fish, licking it clean before moving onto some dessert: a Kit-Kat Bar. Meanwhile, Mizuki had reached into the bag as well; pulling out hotdogs and some rice balls that disappeared almost as soon as they came out. Next, she reached into the bag and pulled out some corn on the cob.

“Are you gonna eat all that!!” Austin cries, watching her eat while just barley able to finish his dessert, having already gotten full after the second fish. Mizuki smiled. Finishing the cob, she wipes the juice from her mouth, smiling.

“Of course I am silly, it would be a shame to just let the food go to waste; I doubt it will all fit in the fridge. Besides, I don’t feel full at all yet.” She says, patting her still flat stomach as it gave another growl of hunger. Austin finishes his candy bar, leaning back in his seat.

“Well, I’m done.. so I guess I’ll just wait for you to finish.” He says, beginning to close his eyes and intending to take a little nap. Now sitting there, munching on yet another rice ball, Mizuki looked over to where Austin lay, looking as if she wanted to ask something.

“You know… that thing we were doing earlier… when you gave me strawberries… that was k-kinda fun…” she said, blushing read once more. “Maybe… so your not just sitting there board, waiting for me to finish… maybe you’d, um, like to… do it again..?”
There you go; a little foreplay for what's yet to come :D. I hope you all enjoy^^.
